To the Gallos, building a productive farm with responsibility for the future meant achieving a healthy win-win balance between operating profits and concern for and protection of the environment. Our company executes a strategy that emphasizes intelligent management of the land, our plant facilities, and all waste from the dairy and farming operations.

• 1996 - Joseph Farms received the prestigious environmental award from the Central Valley Habitat Joint Venture for providing in excess of 2000 productive acres for a perpetual conservation easement, dedicating 1500 productive acres to the production of wildlife friendly crops and restoring 102 productive acres to wetlands habitat.
  
  
• November 2000 - Joseph Farms received the Governor's Recognition Award & Certificate for Environmental and Economic Leadership. This honor is reserved for only those companies which exceed expectation for meritorious contributions to environmental protection and resource conservation in the State of California.
  
  
• November 2001 - Joseph Farms received the EPA's prestigious environmental award "…in recognition of the company's outstanding leadership in protecting the environment and public health for the current population and for the generations to follow".
  
  
• November 2002 - Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton toured Joseph Gallo Farms' model conservation easement on a trip to Merced County.
  
  
• In June 2004, Michael D Gallo was the runner up of the 2004National Wetlands Conservation Awards, presented by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service.  Mr. Gallo was presented with this award for developing a unique agricultural conservation easement affecting 2,130 acres, featuring wildlife compatible crops, as well as enhancing riparian habitats.  The restored systems are providing critical habitat for several thousand arctic nesting geese and other migratory bird species.
